DIN 18008-4 - Fastening of glass railings
The Chemofast injection mortars VK and VECO meet the requirements of DIN 18008-4 for fall protection according to category B and can be used as a linear fastening for glass railings in U-profiles in accordance with the general building inspection certificates.
Due to its high aesthetic appeal and architectural possibilities, glass is becoming more and more important as a load-bearing building material. Glass parapets and railings on galleries and staircases reflect the spirit of the times and are now standard in many buildings.
For this reason, we have set ourselves the task of testing the effects of our injection mortars VK and VECO on glass railings.
Experimental procedure:
In order to determine a possible chemical influence or delamination of the glass composite by the injection mortar, series of tests were carried out on test bodies made of laminated safety glass using the injection mortars and components of the mortar masses (binder, peroxide paste).
The test results show that even at high ambient temperatures of up to +80°C and an exposure time of a total of 168 hours, there is no delamination (detachment) or surface penetration of the injection mortars VK, VECO or components of the mortar masses between the layers of the laminated safety glass.
Note: At a component temperature of + 20°C, the processing time of the injection mortar is 6 minutes and after 45 minutes of curing time the full strength of the mortar is achieved.
After these periods, there is no significant amount of uncured binder in the mortar mix that could affect the laminated glass.
Test results
In “worst-case” investigations, the chemical influence of components of the mortar masses (binders, peroxide paste) and solvents or cleaning agents such as acetone, ethanol and tetrahydrofuran (THF) on the laminated glass film could be partially demonstrated.
However, since the required structural design of the linear bearing or the arrangement of the round cords means that no contact surface is created with the laminated glass film, the use of solvents or cleaning agents such as acetone, ethanol or tetrahydrofuran (THF) is harmless.
Therefore, a negative influence of the laminated glass at the linear bearing is not to be expected from the Chemofast injection mortars VK and VECO.
